A fish merchant has admitted attacking his wife at a Highland hotel.
Derek Pearson admitted behaving in a threatening and abusive manner towards Wordee Phangkhum at the Penta Hotel in Inverness.
The 57-year-old also admitted slapping her in the face, putting his hands around her neck and shouting and swearing at her and a member of the hotel’s security staff.
Pearson, of 31 Colesea Road, Cove, Aberdeen, appeared from custody before Sheriff David Sutherland at Inverness Sheriff Court yesterday.
Fiscal depute Ross Carvel said Pearson was a father of five who met his wife on Facebook. He added that she had no friends or relatives in the UK.
He added: “She is deemed as at a high risk. I will be seeking a special bail condition that he has no contact with his wife.”
But Pearson’s agent, solicitor Ross Anderson, said: “This is a one-off incident and the possibility of reoffending is at the low end of the scale.”
Sheriff David Sutherland refused to impose the special bail condition because he was concerned his wife would have no income.
He released Pearson on standard bail conditions and the businessman will appear in court again on December 21.
