Police are investigating the tragic death of a teenager in Inverness.
The 16-year-old was taken to the city’s Raigmore Hospital after emergency services were called to a flat in Diriebught Road.
Paramedics had battled to revive him but he was pronounced dead on arrival at hospital.
Police said yesterday his death was being treated as “unexplained”.
It is understood the youth was given CPR on the pavement in front of a black of flats which backs on to Millburn Academy.
A small floral tribute could be seen at the spot yesterday.
The communal garden area to the side of the block of flats was cordoned-off with police tape as officers investigated the death.
Police also searched the area around the flats and parts of the school grounds.
A police spokeswoman said: “Emergency services were alerted to the sudden death of a 16-year-old male within the Diriebught Road area of Inverness around 7.30pm on Friday, December 4.
“The death is currently being treated as unexplained and inquiries are continuing.”
One eyewitness said: “I saw the paramedics giving CPR to someone on the pavement outside.
“At that point I knew it must have been serious if they were doing that there and then.”
Another shocked resident said: “It is really sad. It’s a really quiet area that has the odd party and stuff, but nothing major. Obviously my thoughts are with the friends and family at this time.”
