This is the damage caused by a driver who crashed their car into a garden wall outside an Inverness home.
Sam Lumsden, 30, of Leachkin Road, opened his curtains to the sorry sight at about 8.15am on Monday and immediately reported it to police.
After 24 hours it becomes a road trafficking offence if the driver of the vehicle involved does not report the incident themselves.
The collision happened some time between 10pm on Sunday night and 8.15am yesterday morning.
Mr Lumsden retrieved a broken end of the vehicle’s registration plate which appears to show some of the letter F. This has now been passed to police.
Mr Lumsden, who lives with his fiance Heather Beattie, 29, and their two-year-old daughter Heidi, said: “There is a car being driven about with a missing F on its registration plate, so people should look out for that and report it.
“Anyone could have been walking on the pavement when it happened. I am just thankful it wasn’t my little girl.
“To be honest, if it was a mistake it is understandable with the weather. There is a chance that someone got up at 4am for work and has hit the wall and thought it was too early to knock on our door. Maybe they will come back later. But they have 24 hours and if they don’t come my feelings will change about this.
“At this time of year it is always frosted over and maybe it tells you the council need to grit the road more or do it earlier. But it’s not clear why this happened at the moment.”
A police spokeswoman said: “We are carrying out inquiries and would appeal to anyone who saw anything to come forward with information. We would also appeal for the driver involved to come forward.”
