An Inverness jewellery shop manager took the hotseat in the city’s Eastgate Centre yesterday to have her head shaved in aid of a children’s cancer charity.
Inverness woman Mhairi Macleod was up close and personal with the hair clippers to help raise money for CLIC Sargent as part of the charity’s Buzz campaign.
The campaign encourages people to become a “life-shaver” to support children and young people with cancer, many of whom lose their hair during treatment.
The 32-year-old undertook the challenge yesterday afternoon at 1pm next to Claire’s on the Starbucks bridge.
Mrs Macleod runs H Samuel’s jewellers in the shopping centre and the store also staged a variety of activities as part of the fundraising effort.
Yesterday she said: “I felt nervous and apprehensive about the head shave but children and young people being treated for cancer don’t have a choice about losing their hair.
“I know the money is going to a fantastic cause in CLIC Sargent and that is what’s inspiring me to go through with it.
“I am hoping to raise £500 to help children and young people who are coping with cancer.”
Peter Logie, area fundraising Manager for the north of Scotland, said: “I’d like to say a huge thank you to Mhairi for joining our Big Buzz Campaign and becoming a ‘life-shaver’.
“Every day, ten children and young people hear the devastating news they have cancer. Many will lose their hair during treatment and our Big Buzz campaign gives you the chance to show support for them by shaving your head and raising money for CLIC Sargent.
“At the moment, we can only help two out of three children and young people diagnosed with cancer. We want to reach as many as possible and with your support we can do this. Is there anyone else out there brave enough or maybe a team or group who would give it a go?”
