The 36 year old man died after falling from a canoe on the River Garry, near Invergarry yesterday afternoon (Thursday 31 December 2015). Emergency services received a report of two males in the water and getting into difficulty at around 12:28pm. The man who died was airlifted to Raigmore Hospital in Inverness by Royal Navy Search and Rescue. The 18 year old man with him was taken by Ambulance to Raigmore Hospital after guiding himself to shore. He has since been discharged. The man who died was carried downstream during the incident before being taken aboard the Royal Navy helicopter Rescue 177. Police, coastguard and the ambulance service all attended the incident, along with firefighters from Fort Augustus and Drumnadrochit. The next of kin of those involved have been informed.
