The best friend of a teenage girl, who was killed in a car crash near Inverness, has helped crowdfund more than £2,700 to pay for her pal’s funeral.

Georgia Gilham, 16, and 18-year-old John Foggo died and their two friends were seriously injured in the two-car crash last Thursday.

The news shocked many people who knew the youngsters and Abbie Rennie started a JustGiving Crowdfunding appeal in the hope of raising £500 to help her friend’s family with the funeral costs.

However, the generosity of those who have responded has far exceeded expectations.

Miss Rennie’s message on the crowdfunding page reads: “Georgia was the most amazing person you could ever have the pleasure of meeting.

“She would light up the room wherever she went with her smile. Her laugh was the thing people loved the most about her as it was just so beautiful and so contagious.

“She was such a social person, therefore she will be missed dearly by all her friends and all her family, so let’s give her the send-off she deserves.”

Miss Gilham, of Inverness, was a passenger in a black Vauxhall Corsa which crashed on the B9006 Inverness-Croy road, just east of Sunnyside, at about 6.50pm last Thursday.

She died at the scene, and although paramedics took Mr Foggo to Raigmore Hospital in Inverness, he could not be saved.

The 19-year-old male driver of the vehicle and a 16-year-old girl remain in hospital.

The occupants of the other vehicle involved in the crash were unhurt.

The road was closed for about seven hours to allow a full police investigation to take place.

Family and friends paid emotional tributes to the teenagers following the tragedy.

Miss Gilham was described as a “beautiful girl” who would be missed by many.

Mr Foggo, of North Kessock, was an apprentice mechanic with Highland Scotbus, and his boss said the team had been left “devastated” by the news.

Both families were too upset to comment on Friday, but social media quickly filled with heartfelt messages of condolence for the pair from relatives and friends.
