A 64-year-old Inverness man was jailed for five months yesterday for shouting, swearing and uttering threats towards people in a church.
Sinclair Maciver, of Kenneth Street, admitted behaving in a threatening and abusive manner likely to cause fear or alarm in a drop-in event at Ness Bank Church, on January 12.
Fiscal Fraser Matheson told Inverness Sheriff Court yesterday that Maciver attended the church “apparently in an intoxicated state,” at about 1.10pm on the day in question, and began to shout and swear.
Mr Matheson said that some of the people inside the church let Maciver outside but that he was not calming down despite being asked to do so.
Police attended and Maciver started to direct his insults at one woman in particular, before being arrested and taken to Burnett Road police station.
Defence solicitor John McCall said that his client’s behaviour had spiralled out of control since a family tragedy which happened eight years ago, adding: “This offence here was very unpleasant. The church was running a drop-in centre and Mr Maciver entered drunk and acted in a way he should not have done.”
