A major £350,00 upgrade of the A9 as it bypasses Inverness will begin on Sunday night.
Overnight works will be carried out on the busy trunk road between the two major junctions on the outskirts of the city – the Longman and Raigmore interchanges.
Motorists on the trunk road will have to obey a convoy system – while access from the Raigmore Interchange will be closed with a diversion through the town.
Bear Scotland will carry out the resurfacing work during the night under convoy systems.
World will begin on Sunday at 7pm with the improvements targeting the northbound carriageway of the Inverness to Perth road.
Bear say that work will take place between Sunday evening and Friday mornings with no works scheduled to take place during the weekend
The roads company also confirmed that the convoy system will be removed out of working hours.
However, a 30mph speed limit will remain n place outwith working hours because of the temporary road surface.
Motorists wanting to access the A9 from the northbound slip road from the Raigmore Interchange will have to follow a signed diversion via Harbour Road and Longman Road.
Eddie Ross, Bear Scotland’s north west representative said: “These works will greatly improve the road surface on this section of the A9, creating a safer and smoother journey for motorists.
“We’ve programmed these works to minimise disruption as much as possible by planning the scheme to take place overnight and avoid working on the busier Friday and Saturday nights.
“We thank motorists for their patience in advance and would also encourage them to plan ahead before setting out by checking the Traffic Scotland website for up to date travel information”.
