A new deal has been launched for householders who live near north windfarms to have their energy supplied by local turbines.
Eneco UK and Co-Operative Energy has announced the deal for residents living near Tullo & Twinshiels, Lochluichart and Moy windfarms.
Residents who sign up to the scheme will be able to join either a dual fuel or electricity only 12-month tariff.
Zoisa Walton, Eneco UK’s managing director, said: “Having worked so closely with these communities for a number of years, we are certain that households will appreciate the opportunity to buy energy direct from their local wind farm.
“This announcement is a natural progression of the relationship we have with local residents which is built on our determination to ensure we enhance the communities in which we operate, both in terms of community benefits and now by providing households with an opportunity to live sustainably.”
Ramsay Dunning, managing director at Co-operative Energy, said: “At Co-operative Energy, we are committed to supporting community energy projects and have an ambition to obtain up to 75% of our energy from renewable sources within the next three years.
“Our partnership with Eneco UK is another positive step towards this and we’re pleased to be able to offer sustainable energy to local communities in the area.”
Eneco also recently revealed that they have signed a deal for their windfarm at Moy near Inverness to send power to chocolate maker Mars’ 12 production sites across the UK.
