Sir Chris Hoy has sent a message of support to an Inverness judo star as she battles to recover from a serious brain injury in Vietnam.
The country’s most decorated Olympian urged his compatriot Stephanie Inglis to “keep fighting” following her freak motorbike accident two weeks ago.
In a video message posted on the “SaveSteph” social media site, the six time Olympic cycling champion said he hoped to see the 27-year-old home soon.
He said: “Hi Stephanie, it’s Chris Hoy here, I just wanted to send you a very quick message to wish you the very best and let you know that we’re thinking about you and we’re urging you on.
“We look forward to seeing you when you get back home.
“Keep fighting, remember all the stuff you learned at judo, keep sticking in there, do the very best you can, and we’ll see you very soon. Take care.”
Ms Inglis’ family had reported on Monday night that they had been given “good news and bad news” by doctors treating her brain injury in Vietnam.
They said that her brain swelling had started to reduce and her chances of recovery had improved.
However, they added that the 2014 Commonwealth Games medalist had developed a lung infection which had progressed to pneumonia, and that her body was rejecting the antibiotics.
A fundraising page has been set-up to help pay for her medical bills, and had raised more than £231,000 by last night.
