A children’s charity, which helps sick kids across the Highlands and islands is asking communities, schools, businesses and individuals to rally together and take part in a finger-licking fundraising event.
The ARCHIE Foundation (Highland) has recently opened the doors to a new children’s unit at Inverness’s Raigmore Hospital.
On Friday, June 10 the charity will host its first Big Cake Day to raise funds for life-enhancing equipment.
The state-of-the-art children’s unit was built following a campaign by ARCHIE which raised £2million.
That goal was achieved on March 25 this year and the 30-bed unit recently opened its doors.
The facility provides a more child-centred and family-focused environment with its own dedicated entrance.
Now ARCHIE (Highland) is asking communities to bake, buy, eat and sell cakes to help pay for a long list of equipment, gadgets and furniture which the new unit would benefit from in order to make every child’s stay a little easier.
Laura Mackintosh, head of fundraising for the Highlands and Western Isles, said: “The new unit is already making such a huge difference to children’s lives across the north of Scotland and we are so thankful to everyone who helped raise money to help us open the new unit. However, it’s really important for everyone to know that the ARCHIE fundraising team is here to stay.
“The NHS staff nurses, doctors and carers do such a an amazing job on a daily basis, and we are here to help fundraise for additional specialist equipment that will ensure children from across the north of Scotland benefit from the very best of care.
“So please, communities, schools, businesses big or small, bake a cake and raise money to help us fulfill the long wish list that we have. Every single penny counts, it doesn’t matter how big or small.”
