Police are appealing for witnesses after a cyclist died in Inverness.

Police and ambulance crews were called to Culduthel Road in the Highland capital at noon on Monday following reports that a cyclist had taken unwell.

The man was taken to Raigmore Hospital by ambulance but later died.

The police said yesterday that there were no suspicious circumstances.

However, witnesses who saw the man cycling in the area were urged to come forward by the force.

A police spokeswoman said yesterday: “Police are appealing for witnesses following an incident on Culduthel Road on Monday, June 6, where a male cyclist was found on the road by members of the public and later sadly died.

“Emergency services attended the scene near St Ninians Church around 12pm.

“As part of inquiries to establish the circumstances, police are appealing to anyone who saw the man in the area or cycling nearby to make contact via 101.

“There are no suspicious circumstances and the man’s next of kin have been informed.

“As with all sudden deaths, a report will be submitted to the procurator fiscal.”

The death was one of two tragedies on the roads in the Highlands on Monday.

The incident happened just a few hours after a 21-year-old Australian woman was hit by a car while hitch-hiking home with her boyfriend on Skye.

Madison Rice had been enjoying a day off work with her partner Joe Perry when the tragedy happened near the Sligachan Hotel at 1.15am.

The couple were believed to have been returning home to the luxury Kinloch Lodge hotel in Sleat, where they had been living and working.
