Authors Diana Gabaldon and Jacqueline Riding are among the big names visiting the National Trust for Scotland’s Culloden Battlefield and Visitor Centre this summer, as part of its summer literature festival.
An Epic Tale: The facts and fiction of life during the Rising runs from 2 July until 6 August at the award-winning visitor centre which tells the story of the 1746 battle. The programme of events features authors who write about the Jacobite era, in both fiction and non-fiction genres.
‘An intimate evening with Diana Gabaldon’ is sure to be one of the highlights on Friday 22 July. Gabaldon’s best-selling Outlander novels are now a popular TV series too, capturing the imagination and encouraging new audiences to explore this fascinating period in history. Tickets for this event go on sale on Thursday 23 June at 10am – www.nts.org.uk.
At the closing event on 6 August, acclaimed author and historian Jacqueline Riding will share insights from her latest book, Jacobites: A New History of the ’45 Rebellion, which provides a fresh and compelling perspective on this period of history.
Event creator, Culloden learning officer Catriona McIntosh said:
“We are really excited to be able to bring these fantastic authors to Culloden this summer, 270 years after the battle.
“The Jacobites have always been a rich seam of inspiration for writers and our programme for July shows that this tradition continues, whether working in fact or fiction, the story of Culloden and those who fought here still has an enduring appeal.”
