A 42-year-old Black Isle man was fined £480 after admitting a racially aggravated breach of peace which involved verbally abusing Polish doormen at a city centre nightclub.
Inverness Sheriff Court heard yesterday that Gary Anderson, of Bridge Cottage, School Croft, Culbokie, shouted, swore and acted in an aggressive manner and uttered offensive remarks towards the stewards at Johnny Foxes.
Sheriff Chris Dickson said that it was “clearly an unpleasant way to act and was fuelled by having too much alcohol”.
Fiscal Stewart MacIver told Inverness Sheriff Court that police were on patrol in the area when the incident happened just after 2am on Sunday, October 11 last year.
Mr MacIver said that Anderson was “leaning his head in” towards the stewards and pointing and shouting at them and that, despite attempts by police to calm him down, became abusive towards officers.
He then uttered several offensive remarks towards the doormen beginning with the word “Polish”, and claimed that he had been assaulted by them inside the premises.
Anderson, who was unrepresented in court, said: “I was on a work night out and had far too much to drink and it’s not the way I usually act.”
