Customers of Inverness Leisure Centre will experience four days of reduced access to the facility as long-awaited permanent repair works get underway next month.
Scaffolding was erected in April last year, following a safety inspection, which revealed problems with the windows above the public swimming pools.
Temporary repairs were carried out, but the local authority said the internal scaffolding would remain in place as a safety measure, prior to any permanent work being carried out. But the Press and Journal revealed in mid-June that this had resulted in a bill of £50,000.
The authority recently appointed a contractor for the works and a 100-tonne crane will be brought in to lift beams into place across the pool roof to allow the works to start on August 15.
A council spokeswoman said: “For safety reasons all areas of Inverness Leisure will be closed to customers for one day on August 15. A further three day reduction in service to the swimming pools will take place on 16th, 17th & 18th while the heavy lifting works take place above.
“As the use of the crane will be dependent on fair weather, High Life Highland will keep Inverness Leisure customers updated during the service reductions via their website and social media pages.
“These works conclude the final stages of the current major improvements at Inverness Leisure and when complete the internal and external scaffolding located at the swimming pool areas will be removed”.
The work is expected to cost around £103,000.
