A Highland woman said she hoped her graduation would make her late grandfather proud.
Bethany Low, from Inverness, collected her accountancy and finance honours degree from the Robert Gordon University (RGU) in Aberdeen at His Majesty’s Theatre yesterday.
The 20-year-old’s final year was made all the more challenging after her grandfather fell ill.
“During the first semester I spent a lot of time travelling back and forth from Inverness to see my grandpa,” the former Millburn Academy pupil said.
“It was difficult because I wanted to spend time with him but I knew he wanted me to come to university too.
“He passed away just before Christmas and I’ve definitely been trying to make him proud.”
Miss Low has already secured a job with accountancy firm Johnston Carmichael in the city after she impressed during her final-year placement with the firm.
She added: “They were amazing, my experience during placement made me really want to go back there.
“It feels strange to be finished, it’s like the next chapter of life has started, it doesn’t quite feel real.”
And Miss Low, whose boyfriend Lewis Dunbar also graduated with a degree in accountancy and finance yesterday, says she will miss her lecturers the most.
“I was only 16 when I first came to university and they were very supportive,” she said.
“We had a really close relationship with them, they have been so supportive throughout.
“We’ll definitely keep in touch with some of them, they have asked us to let them know if we get married, if we get new jobs, or any other big events in our lives.”
