The newly formed City of Inverness Pipe Band built on its success at the Scottish Pipe Band Championships in Dumbarton this weekend.

Members gave another prize-winning performance as they took third place in Grade 3A and were awarded the Ailsa Craig Trophy on Saturday.

Pipe Major Scott Taylor said: “I am very pleased that this is another very successful achievement for the band coming third out of 17 bands at Grade 3A at a championship competition.

“The band was only formed in October last year and our successes have been consistently remarkable for a new band.

“Initially, the band was graded by the Royal Scottish Pipe Band Association (RSPBA) at Grade 4A and we won our first two competitions at Banchory and then at Paisley becoming British champions.

“Following this initial success, the band was upgraded not one, but two categories by the RSPBA to Grade 3A and we came second at the European Championships in Forres.”

Provost of Inverness Helen Carmichael congratulated the band on its success.

She said: “Well done to all the band members who have put Inverness firmly on the map of the pipe band competition circuit.

“Their repeat trophy winning performances are a fantastic achievement.”

Other Highland community bands placed at the Scottish Championships were Ullapool and District, which came first in Grade 4A, and the Northern Constabulary Community, which came 14th in the same category.

And Badenoch and Strathspey was qualifier two at Grade 4B.
