Plans have been revealed for 48 new flats next to the Caledonian Canal on the outskirts of Inverness.
Under the masterplan, five blocks would be built on Torvean Caravan Park and a nearby closed petrol station just off the A82 Inverness to Fort William road.
The plans have been submitted by the present owners of the caravan park under the name Caledonian Highview Ltd.
The development would involve the 48 flats being built with two blocks including convenience shops on the ground floor.
However, the development is likely to be some time away with the caravan park to be relocated before works start.
Work is likely to be phased over the next two or three years
Planning agent Neil Gray of Edinburgh-based consultancy Rapleys said the applicant had been in talks with the council for some time about the project.
The area is slated for development under the council’s Torvean and Ness-side development brief.
Mr Gray said that the aim is to create “something a bit different” for the area, which is set for substantial new development in the coming years due to the West Link road, the new Torvean Golf Club and the relocated Highland rugby pitches.
He said: “These are flats which will be aimed at young couples or families just starting out on the ladder.
“There ought to great views from the upper floors.”
The development is likely to be a mix of one and two bedroom properties, with larger “penthouses” on the top floor.
The site has previously been granted planning permission for 81 flats in six blocks.
However, the plans were dropped after the site changed hands.
