A Moray man hurled a bottle of Buckfast at police officers after trying to goad them into a fight.
Paul Box appeared at his brother’s Forres home to challenge him over an unpaid debt that had caused bad feeling between the pair.
When the 48-year-old was refused entry, he became aggressive and police were subsequently called to remove him from Torridon Park.
The scenes unfolded in the early evening of Sunday, May 8.
Fiscal Kevin Corrins said that Peter and Dyan Box heard the accused arrive at the house and “formed the impression he was intoxicated”.
Mr Corrins added: “He was seen holding a bottle of Buckfast in his right hand, before setting it down and waving his arms at the property while clenching his fists.
“Mrs Box said he looked as if he was ready to kill somebody and, after going outside to bring in a pet, she called the police.”
Officers arrived shortly thereafter, and the accused quickly turned his attention to them.
The court heard that he addressed them by saying: “Come on boys, let’s see what you’ve got”.
Mr Corrins said: “He staggered towards them while shouting and swearing, but began to run away after they attempted to deploy their CS spray.
“As he was trying to get away, he threw the bottle over his shoulder towards the officers.”
Police were later forced to use the CS spray on Box while they took him into custody.
Box, of 45 Shieldaig Road in Forres, accepted a charge of behaving in a threatening or abusive manner by shouting, swearing and throwing a bottle.
His solicitor, Brent Lockie, said his client was angry about a £1,500 loan he gave his brother 10 years ago which had not been repaid.
Sheriff Chris Dickson ordered Box to perform 80 hours of unpaid work, and to remain under supervision for a year.
