Army reservists from the Highlands are “devastated” following the tragic death of a young soldier who was based at Fort George.
Conor McPherson, 24, died after being shot in the head during a live firing exercise at Otterburn, Northumberland.
Lieutenant Colonel Piers Strudwick, commanding officer of the 7 Scots, spoke to the Press and Journal in Croatia.
He is leading about 100 reservists – including a number from Inverness and Aberdeen – from the battalion who are currently taking part in Exercise Sava Star in the Balkan state.
Lieutenant Colonel Strudwick said: “We are devastated after having been made aware of this terrible event in Otterburn. We have been informed that it’s firmly under investigation by the civilian police and defence authorities.
“As a brother battalion of the 3 Scots, our thoughts are firmly with the family and with his buddies and everyone in 3 Scots at this time.”
