Song touches hearts at Moray fun day

Touching scenes played out during a family fun day in Moray as dozens of balloons were scattered skywards in honour of youngsters who have lost their fight against cancer.

The emotional moment began the seventh annual Logan’s Family Fun Day in Lossiemouth, which was established in honour of toddler Logan Main.

Yesterday’s event also marked the launch of a new single dedicated to the three-year-old, who died in 2009.

The lyrics to Always a Rainbow refer to Logan’s “perfect little smile”.

His siblings, five-year-old twins Elisha and Lachlan, feature prominently on the track – which was publicly aired for the first time while the multi-coloured balloons drifted into the air.

Logan’s mum and dad, Angela and Christopher Main, looked on with pride at the tribute, and many in attendance were seen wiping away tears.

Singer and songwriter, Tish Tindall, penned an initial draft of the tune while Logan was undergoing treatment and has now reworked it to reflect the work done in his name since he passed away.

She confirmed that the song would soon be on sale over the internet.

Ms Tindall added: “Logan’s Fund is very important to me, and I wanted the song to reflect how it has brought people together.”

Hundreds flocked to the town’s playing fields to take in the opening ceremony.

The day began beneath a blanket of cloud, but the sky cleared as the afternoon progressed and the temperature soared.

RAF Lossiemouth’s 2622 Squadron pipe band began proceedings by circling the arena shortly after noon, as the crowd clapped and swayed in tune with the traditional music.

Cheerleaders and kickboxers staged demonstrations during the afternoon, and there was also a dog show.

Boards displaying the individual stories of different children who have struggled against cancer were displayed in one tent, offering a sombre reminder of the day’s purpose.

Logan’s Fund spokesman Cameron Mackintosh said it was fundraisers like yesterday’s that paid for the Logan’s Sunny Days project – which offers families with children who have been diagnosed with cancer a break in a deluxe caravan by Lossiemouth’s East Beach.

On Saturday night, a “handbags and glad rags” fundraiser at Elgin Town Hall raised almost £5,000 for the charity.

Moray MSP Richard Lochhead said the charity had “captured people’s imagination”.
