Lovers of murder mysteries will be in their element at next month’s Spirit of Moray Book Festival, when three of Sc leading crime writers discuss their work.

Best-selling authors Stuart MacBride, Chris Brookmyre and Val McDermid will be talking about their latest books, and enlightening readers on the process behind creating their grisly, but gripping novels.

Mr MacBride’s The Missing and the Dead was the region’s most borrowed book last year.

The writer praised the Moray readers who showed an interest in his work for “keeping our libraries alive”.

They will be joined by the author of the popular Katie Morag children’s books, Mairi Hedderwick, who will be discussing her other are of expertise; writing and illustrating travel books for adults.

Political writer David Torrance, who is best-known for penning an unauthorised biography of Alex Salmond, is also among the attendees.

Children are expected to flock to see Pamela Butchart, whose book My Head Teacher is a Vampire Rat has proved a hit among young readers.

The literary treats will run from Tuesday, September 13, to Saturday, September 17, at Elgin Library.

A schools programme will take place during the week, with events running from the morning until the afternoon.

Organisers are hopeful the busy programme will attract visitors of all ages and inspire new writers to put pen to paper.
