An MSP is continuing his campaign to ensure incentives are offered to attract medical consultants to Moray.
NHS Grampian has appointed a locum at Dr Gray’s Hospital in Elgin after their only Parkinson’s specialist took a year-long sabbatical at the end of last month.
A review is now taking place across the region of geriatric services to ensure resources are being deployed best.
But Moray MSP Richard Lochhead is urging more should be done to attract staff to Dr Gray’s with a part-time consultant post still lying vacant following a staff retirement.
He said: “It’s a welcome step that NHS Grampian is appointing a locum to cover geriatric and neurology clinics at Dr Gray’s for three months while they carry out a region-wide review.
“They must move quickly now to provide clarity as to the timescales of the review and it is vital that the health board consults with Parkinson’s UK and patients in Moray as part of this process.
“I’ve written back to the chief executive to reiterate there is a strong case to be made for incentives to be offered to consultants to take up key posts at Dr Gray’s to secure the long-term future of local services.”
