A Moray man has been charged with abduction and rape as part of a crackdown on domestic violence.
Christopher Cowie was arrested after police in Moray, Aberdeenshire and Aberdeen launched an operation to tackle domestic violence.
The 26-year-old, of Elgin, appeared in private at the town’s sheriff court on Monday.
He made no plea or declaration in relation to the abduction and rape charges, and was committed for further examination and released on bail.
Jordon Smith, of 54 Wallace Avenue in Buckie, also appeared in connection with the crackdown and admitted a string of offences.
The 20-year-old pleaded guilty to behaving in a threatening or abusive manner by banging on the window of a property in Batchen Street in Elgin, while shouting, swearing and “uttering threats of violence” on Sunday, September 18.
He admitted punching Sean Barron on the head that same day, and threatening Joseph Thornes near Elgin’s Asda store.
The crackdown was carried out as part of Operation Pine, and involved 30 officers.
Inspector Neil Campbell said: “Domestic abuse comes in many forms and guises, none of which will be tolerated.
“Our message is clear – we will continue to target perpetrators, and those who have previously offended.”
