Rare bottles of Speyside whisky, described as liquid history in a glass, will go on sale today.
A total of 100 bottles of 50-year-old Glenlivet is being launched at department store Harrods in London.
The vintage malts do not come cheap though – at £20,000 each.
Whisky experts have hailed the collection, which has lain dormant since being bottled in 1966, as the pinnacle of the Glenlivet range.
Collectors have already been intrigued with the hand-blown decanter and gold stopper that has been set with a smoky quartz Cairngorm stone.
Master distiller Alan Winchester said: “Casks of this age and quality are such a rare thing these days, that the resulting single malt is literally liquid history in a glass.
“I’m immensely proud to release this wonderful whisky, which has been cared for an crafted over generations.”
For those not wealthy enough to shell out for a nip of the malt – the tasting notes describe it as “the perfect combination” of the spirit and sherry cask which releases a “wonderful symphony” of distinctive flavours, including the signature fruity notes of Glenlivet.
With a sweet nose of treacle, raisins and apricot jam the finish is “exceptionally long, smooth, with a pleasing hint of dryness”.
