Hundreds of students from Moray College UHI are preparing to step out for the annual graduation ceremonies today.
Two ceremonies are taking place at Elgin’s town hall to celebrate academic achievements.
It will be the first time new principal David Patterson has presided over the traditional event.
Before the ceremony he praised the accomplishments of all the students due to pick up their new qualifications today.
He said: “Certainly, there is a lot to be proud of here.
“Yet again Moray College surpassed its target last year for the number of students – school leavers and adults – who studied further education programmes here.
“More students than ever before studied high education programmes here. I think it’s remarkable that a relatively small town like Elgin, with a population of about 20,000 people, can attract over 1,000 people each week to follow university programmes.
“I think we need to put something new on that sign. It says ‘Welcome to Elgin, ancient cathedral city’. Perhaps we need to add ‘and modern university town’.”
