Moray’s parliamentary representatives are entering the festive spirit early.
MP Angus Robertson and MSP Richard Lochhead want school pupils in the region to sprinkle some cheer by designing their own Christmas card.
The winning drawing will be sent out by the politicians to everyone who has made it onto their seasonal list.
All primary school children in the region have been encouraged to pick up colouring pencils to design the entries, which must have a theme of “welcoming”.
Last year’s card raised more than £1,000 for charity with this year’s chosen cause being Clan Cancer Support.
Mr Robertson said: “Over the years we have highlighted the hugely important work of charities in Moray. Generous sponsorship from businesses has enabled us to make substantial donations as a result.”
Mr Lochhead said: “The welcoming theme is very much part of Clan’s work with those affected by a cancer diagnoses and the family and friends who support them during that time.
“They do an amazing job with the dedicated staff and volunteers in their office and Elgin and in the outreach work they do throughout Moray.”
Clan coordinator for Moray, Tracy Sellar, said: “Within Moray we have developed our services through the creation of drop-in centres across the area, reducing the need for people to travel significant distances.
“The support we receive from communities is fantastic. We hope the children enjoy taking part in the competition and we’re looking forward to seeing the winning design.”
Entries must be submitted to the politicians’ parliamentary office before noon on Friday, November 18.
