A woman in her 90s was taken to hospital yesterday after two cars crashed head-on in Moray.
The collision happened on the B9010 between Rafford and Dallas at about 3.20pm, and emergency services closed off the route for several hours.
Both vehicles, a blue Volkswagen Golf and grey Honda Civic, remained on the road for more than three hours after the incident as police carried out an investigation at the scene.
The cars were travelling along a series of bends on the narrow single-carriageway country road when the accident near the junction for Tullochwood Lodges.
Both cars had their bonnets crumpled in the impact, with bodywork broken off and lying at the side of the woodland route.
Ambulance crews arrived at the scene shortly after the incident and took a female driver to hospital in Elgin for precautionary checks – fearing her age may have made her more vulnerable to injury.
Last night police were unable to confirm what vehicle the elderly woman was driving.
The driver of the other car involved in the accident was not injured.
Fire crews were also called to the scene but were not needed.
A police spokeswoman said: “An elderly female in her 90s was taken to Dr Gray’s Hospital following the accident. She was taken for precautionary checks due to her age.
