The son of a man killed in a head-on crash on the A98 has paid tribute to his late father.

77-year-old Brian Lawrence, from the Cullen area of Moray, was driving on the A98 Buckie to Cullen road near the Findochty junction when he collided with another vehicle.

A fire crew from Buckie attended the scene at around 11.30am on Sunday morning and firefighters used hydraulic cutting equipment to free one of the casualties from the wreckage. A helimed was also sent to the scene.

A passenger in Mr Lawrence’s vehicle, a 73-year-old female, and the driver of a silver Renault Megane remain in hospital in serious condition.

Mr Lawrence’s son, Mark, released the following statement on behalf of his family; “My dad was well known about the area, he was always able to help anyone in need of his electrical skills or anything.

“We are devastated about his death, and would like to thank all the emergency services that tried to save him.”

Sergeant Malcolm Kinross, Road Policing Unit, North East Division added:-“First of all, I would say that our thoughts are with the friends and family of everyone involved with this tragic incident.

“I would appeal for anyone who was aware of a silver Renault Megane or blue Rover 75, around 1130 am today on the A98 between Buckie and Cullen to contact the Police on 101”
