The incident took place on Portknockie’s Victoria Street at around 3.20pm yesterday afternoon. Police sealed off the street for several hours amid reports that the woman had been stabbed but managed to run to a neighbour for help. Last night many locals were left too shocked to speak following the alleged attack in the quiet fishing village. However, one resident said: “A woman was attacked. Residents across the road took her in until the police arrived.” The 45-year-old was taken to Dr Gray’s Hospital in Elgin where her injuries were said to be serious but not life-threatening. A 41-year-old man is expected to appear at Elgin Sheriff Court tomorrow in connection with the incident. Detective Inspector Alan Armit said: “I would once again like to reassure the public that this incident was contained and completely isolated. “There will be a notable police presence in the area for the time being. “The local community are thanked for their patience so far.”
