Fire service bosses have welcomed reports that the region has among the lowest number of house fires in Scotland.
Scottish Fire and Rescue Service representatives yesterday addressed Moray Council with details of local crews’ performance between April and September this year.
The findings revealed that Moray firefighters’ efforts to prevent blazes from taking place had paid off.
Staff visited an added 503 homes compared to that period last year, to advise residents on fire safety.
Across that six-month spell, the region fell victim to only 50 house fires – compared to a national high of 960 – and nobody died as a result of a blaze.
Local senior officer, David Rout, said: “Throughout Moray we continue to promote home fire safety visits and in particular to ensure that these are targeted at the people most in need.”
During the reporting period, we delivered 802 home fire safety visits.”
