A Moray teenager is preparing herself for the role of her life as she takes the starring part in a pantomime version of one of her favourite childhood films.
Bryony Munro will play the heroine in the Elgin Amateur Dramatic Society’s upcoming Cinderella show.
The 17-year-old, who studies events management at Moray College, says she spent her childhood hooked to the Disney version of the 17th century folk tale.
Bryony was a member of the choir when the theatre group staged a panto based on Beauty and the Beast last December, so taking the title role is a big step up.
She said: “I’m nervous about it, but I’m really excited as well.
“This is the first time I’ve ever had a major role in a show, and I’ve been doing a lot of preparation for it.
“Cinderella was one of my favourite films growing up, so I was over the moon when I found out I’d be getting to play her.”
A cast of about 50 performers, most of them youngsters, have been doubling their rehearsals ahead of the opening show next month.
Director and writer, Amanda Craib, promised this year’s outing would be a spectacle laden with special effects.
The 40-year-old has been a member of the acting troupe since she was 15, but this was the first time she has ever written a show.
She said: “I’ve directed pantomimes a few times, so I knew what to do and have made sure it’s packed with singing, dancing and plenty of local jokes.
“It will be true to the traditional Cinderella story, but with a few twists.”
The Buckie High School drama teacher added: “What will set this year’s panto apart is our special effects.
“We’ve been working really hard to make it a magical experience.”
Actors Ian Glover and Ben Mortimer will add to the fun as ugly sister dames, Feta and Gorgonzola.
The pantomime’s debut performance will take place on Wednesday, December 7, at Elgin Town Hall.
Shows will run at 7.30pm every night until Saturday, December 10, when there will also be a 2.30pm matinee.
