World-famous piper to perform at Moray school

Fred Morrison will also run a workshop for pupils at Gordonstoun ahead of his performance there.

One of Scotland’s most renowned living bagpipers will perform a special concert at a Moray school.

Fred Morrison is taking to the stage at Gordonstoun at the end of the month for an extravaganza of Scots music.

The piper, who celebrates the traditional roots of his father from the Outer Hebrides, has taken the world music scene by storm with his passionate performances.

During the set the musician will perform hits from his albums “The Broken Chanter” and “The Sound of the Sun”.

Songs from his time with Celtic supergroup Clan Alba were used in the 1990s Hollywood blockbuster “Rob Roy”.

While at Gordonstoun the musician will also run a workshop for students to improve their technical skills on the pipes while giving them creative guidance.

Scott Oliphant, pipe teacher at the school, believes the concert will be an excellent opportunity for musicians to learn from the renowned performer.

He said: “It is a real honour to be welcoming Fred Morrison to Gordonstoun for the first time.

“We have more than 50 students learning the bagpipes at the school, so it will be a fantastic opportunity for them to participate in his workshop and then to be inspired by his play at his concert in the evening.”

Tickets for the performance cost £10 and are available by e-mailing tickets@gordonstoun.org.uk or on the door. The concert begins at 7.30pm on Monday, November 28 at the school’s Ogstoun Theatre.
