A new £3million electricity depot has been opened in Moray to help keep the power flowing during winter.
The Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks (SSEN) site in Elgin will become the base for 80 people from the energy company.
The building was officially opened by Moray’s MP Angus Robertson and MSP Richard Lochhead.
During a visit to the Chanonry Road North development, the politicians met staff and spoke to trainees who are being prepared for a career with the firm.
Employees who are tasked with restoring electricity following power cuts, building new infrastructure and maintaining existing facilities will all be based at the new compound.
Mr Lochhead said: “SSEN’s investment in this fantastic facility in Elgin is good news for Moray. It provides a key link in the chain of sites that keep our electricity supply going and which reacts to issues when they occur.”
Dale Cargill, director of SSEN customer operations, explained the new base would prove invaluable in the coming months.
He added: “As we enter winter, we are already preparing for possible bad weather and this new depot will play a vital role in helping to keep the lights on for homes and businesses across Moray.”
