A Highlands and Islands MSP returned to his old school to reveal the winner of a Christmas card competition.
Douglas Ross attended classes at Alves Primary School in Moray between 1987 and 1994. And he visited the children there yesterday, to crown the winner of his first Christmas card contest since being elected to parliament in May.
Dozens of pupils gathered excitedly as a special morning assembly was arranged for the Conservative politician to announce which child’s entry had impressed him the most.
Mr Ross confirmed he would be sending out a festive design by 11-year-old Niamh Strasdin to friends and family this winter.
He said: “The standard of entries across all age groups was amazing, and it was a very difficult job trying to pick who should be the winner.
“After much deliberation, we agreed on the drawing by Niamh.
“I was impressed by the detail she included with Santa and his sleigh in the sky, a snowman and a Christmas tree.”
Niamh received an art set and a mug featuring her winning design as prizes. She was also given a VIP family ticket for the Morayvia aviation centre at Kinloss, and a chocolate Santa.
Eight-year-old Oliver Morgan and Cerryn Michie, six, were awarded runner-up prizes of mugs featuring their designs, family Morayvia tickets and chocolate reindeer.
