Moray mountain bike trails win tourism recognition

Tens of thousands of visitors have taken to the Glenlivet trails since they opened at the end of 2013.
Tens of thousands of visitors have taken to the Glenlivet trails since they opened at the end of 2013.

One of the most spectacular adventure trails in Moray has gained the approval of Scotland’s tourism body.

Bike trails, set among plunging descents and mountainous peaks in the Cairngorms at the Glenlivet Estate, have been awarded four stars by Visit Scotland.

And tens of thousands of cyclists have taken to the tracks at Carn Daimh forest, near Tomintoul, since they were opened at the end of 2013.

The Crown Estate’s countryside manager, Vicky Hilton, said the award only confirmed what she had already been told by cyclists.

She added: “We set out to create bike trails that would not only hold interest and excitement for skilled mountain bikers, but also be appropriate for family groups and novices.

“Our two trails offer a great mix for all visitors and each makes the most of the spectacular scenery.

“Our own survey shows that the trails are ideal for most of our visitors with all the facilities receiving high approval ratings.

“We are now very much an established part of the tourist offering in the Cairngorms and are proud we are delivering a facility that is recognised for its quality.”

The amenities have proved popular with many day-trippers travelling to the Cairngorms from across Moray and the Highlands.

Since opening, the two tracks have also been used as a focal point for other activities taking place on the estate.

This week, Visit Scotland also awarded four stars to the historic Georgian family home, Dalvey House, near Forres.

The 18th-century property secured the recognition at the first time of asking.
