Strong winds have forced one of Moray’s most popular Boxing Day traditions to be postponed.
More than 100 swimmers were due to take a dip in Burghead Harbour this afternoon to raise money for local causes.
But following overnight snow and a weather warning for strong winds organisers have made the decision to hold the cherished event on Hogmanay instead.
The swim had already been moved to the inner basin at the coastal village after officials monitored the conditions through Christmas Day.
A statement from the organisers explained the safety of those who had been due to attend had to be taken into account.
It states: “Due to the severe conditions currently in Burghead and forecast throughout the day we have taken the decision to postpone the swim until Hogmanay.
“After reviewing this morning the president decided it was far too dangerous to allow swimmers and divers to enter the water and also for spectators to be in the harbour area.
“We deeply apologise for the frustration and disruption this will cause however we must prioritise safety above everything else.”
The event will now take place at 2pm on Hogmanay.
