An adventurous nurse will soar to new heights during a fundraising event, inspired by the determination of a Moray campaigner.
Liz Butterworth, from Forres, will take to the sky for a wing walk later this year to raise money for MND Scotland.
The nurse, who works at Nairn Town and County Hospital, has already amassed thousands of pounds for worthy causes from thrill-seeking pursuits.
And when deciding what to do for 2017’s challenge, the 55-year-old was moved by the courage of fellow Moray resident Lucy Lintott.
Mrs Butterworth said: “I was originally going to split the money raised for MND, but after hearing about Lucy, I decided to give it all to them.
“It’s a devastating illness and she’s done so much to raise money and awareness that I decided I wanted to do something too. Her dedication is an inspiration.
“Having a nursing background, I’m totally aware there’s no cure for it and at the moment they need some research to go into it.”
The aerial wing walk display will involve Mrs Butterworth being strapped into a harness on top of a small plane as it rushes through the air.
Miss Lintott, 22, was the youngest person in Scotland with motor neurone disease when she was diagnosed in 2013 and has raised more than £100,000 to fight it.
The Garmouth resident, who is becoming more reliant on a wheelchair, is defying the limitations of the degenerative disease by building up strength in her legs during gym sessions.
Mrs Butterworth has previously abseiled down the side of the Forth Rail Bridge and canoed the length of Loch Ness for worthy causes, including Highland Hospice and Chest Heart and Stroke Scotland.
A fundraising target of £1,000 has been set for the charity initiative and Mrs Butterworth revealed preparations have already started.
She added: “There’s a recommended weight to make it safe to be strapped onto the wing. I had to lose about two stone, so I started straight away and am almost there.
“I’m not a bad flyer at the moment although that may change after the wing walk.”
“I wouldn’t say I’m an adrenaline seeker or anything. I just think that when you get to a certain age, you want to give something back.”
