A former seaman is the latest candidate to throw his hat into the ring to fight for election to Moray Council.
Walter Wilson has been chosen to contest the Speyside Glenlivet seat for the Conservatives in May.
The former Navy man’s parents lived near Tomintoul and his grandfather toured village halls with his fiddle for Friday night dances.
Mr Wilson served on the Type 23 frigates HMS Richmond and HMS Somerset as well as the Type 42 destroyer HMS Manchester.
His service with the Navy took him to the chilly Arctic waters off the Norwegian coast as well as more comfortable Caribbean conditions.
After leaving the armed forces he trained as a chartered accountant.
Mr Wilson said: “For the past 13 years I have worked in the manufacturing, engineering and energy sectors.
“This took me around the country but I always wanted to return to Moray and I’m very pleased to be back here.
“Serving as a councillor would be a new challenge for me and I have no illusions about the demands of the role both as a representative of a very large and diverse rural ward and also in meeting the challenges facing local government.”
Mr Wilson added that, if elected, his priorities would be the region’s education system as well as preserving the natural environment.
