Police have confirmed that a 16-year-old boy was found dead in Buckie last night.
It is understood that the teenager’s body was discovered near his family home.
Police said that, though inquiries are at an early stage, it is not thought that there are any suspicious circumstances.
A spokeswoman said: “We can confirm that officers were called to a property in the Buckie area during Monday evening, following reports of the sudden death of a 16-year-old male.
“As with all sudden deaths, a report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.”
Buckie High School has cancelled a drop-in session for local P7 children this evening, to allow the senior secondary pupils who run the events time to grieve.
The boy’s death marks the second tragedy for Buckie High School within the space of months.
At the end of October, 14-year-old Neringa Narusyte was killed in a collision on the B9016 road between Buckie and Keith.
