A new Moray art school gained Holyrood commendation yesterday when the country’s Deputy First Minister toured its grounds.
Glasgow School of Art opened up its Highlands and Islands campus at the Altyre Estate, outside Forres, last month.
During his visit, John Swinney learned about the complex work being performed at the renovated 19th-century steading.
Mr Swinney launched one of the GSA’s major research centres in 2013, and said he was dazzled by its subsequent progress.
The SNP politician described the campus as “a wonderful showcase of the research and innovation for which Scotland is globally renowned”.
He was enlightened about design projects being carried out to increase breastfeeding in Scotland, and a scheme aimed at helping people adjust to having prosthetic limbs.
He was shown around by campus director, Irene McAra-McWilliam.
She said: “Mr Swinney launched our Institute of Design Innovation four years ago, so it was a particular pleasure to be able to show him how much it has developed over the years.”
