A Moray charity is encouraging residents to join a walk through the region’s largest town to help challenge misconceptions about mental health.
The Elgin branch of the Scottish Association for Mental Health (Samh) has arranged the Walk a Mile event to raise awareness of the group and tackle stigmas surrounding psychological conditions.
The initiative will take place on Friday, March 24, and participants are being urged to share their experiences as they stroll through the town.
Support worker, Helen Low, is overseeing the project and wants to “show that mental health can be a topic of everyday conversations”.
She said: “Bringing Walk a Mile to Elgin is really important. I hope that people will come along to talk about mental health in a positive atmosphere.”
Thousands of people have taken part in walks organised by the charity across Scotland.
Health professionals, carers, and people with experience of mental health problems are being especially encouraged to take part.
But organisers stress that it is open to “anyone who cares about tackling mental health discrimination”.
The walk will begin at 12.30pm at the library in Cooper Park, and people can sign up at
