Creative cooks across Moray have been asked to get their thinking caps on and come up with a unique twist on a classic Scottish delicacy.
The World Tattie Scone Championship has become a popular feature of the Piping at Forres music competition over recent years.
Prawns, haggis and blue cheese have all proved unlikely additions to the traditional mix of mashed potatoes and flour, as entrants strived to create the best tattie scone in the world.
Registration is now open for people looking to put their skills to the test at next month’s contest.
The culinary competition is organised by Elaine Sutherland, of Elgin’s Oakwood Cookery School, and yesterday she offered some tips on how to impress judges.
She said: “Over the years, we have seen anything and everything from people using prawns to raspberries.
“This year, we expect no less from the competitors, it’s such a lot of fun.
“There are those who take it very seriously and have practised, and there are others who just register and have a giggle with it.
“Each year we have people who are seasoned chefs and those who have barely set foot in a kitchen.
“That’s what makes the contest so brilliant – you never know who is going to scoop the accolade.”
Last summer’s winning effort was created by Nichola Smith, who used raspberries as the key ingredient.
Forres entrant, Mary Greer, won in 2014 with a treat titled Rabbie, flavoured with haggis, neeps and tatties.
Piping At Forres will be held on Saturday, June 24, in Grant Park.
