An MSP had to receive hospital treatment after having his finger injured by a letter box while campaigning in Moray.
Richard Lochhead was delivering leaflets for the forthcoming general election in Dufftown when the flap snapped shut, trapping a finger on his right hand.
By the time the campaigner had freed himself, he had suffered a “deep wound” and immediately sought medical help.
Pharmacy staff cleaned the cut before referring the MSP to the town’s Stephen Hospital to have his hand bandaged.
Despite the close encounter with the letter box, Mr Lochhead immediately resumed delivering leaflets for his party colleague.
He explained it was the first time he had been injured visiting homes in the run-up to an election in more than 30 years of campaigning.
And the MSP was quick to praise the local health staff for their attentive care.
He said: “Even though this was minor injury, it was a reminder about the value of Stephen Hospital in Dufftown and of having local health facilities generally in our more rural communities in our time of need.
“The nurses I met could not have been more helpful and caring. The pharmacy staff were also helpful and allowed me to wash my wound before recommending I went to the local hospital around the corner.”
