Moray Council has revealed plans to offer companies the chance to buy street names.
We asked members of the public what they thought about the proposal.
“It doesn’t sound like a problem to me. The main concern I would have is what the house is like. It doesn’t matter what the street is called, the council has to make money somewhere.”
Gary Miller, 46, engineer, Elgin.
“Most of the streets in Elgin are named after local people. There isn’t much difference naming it after a local company. It sounds like a good idea to make money.”
Gordon Beattie, 70, joiner, Elgin.
“I don’t know what’s in it for the company. If they buy a street and then there’s a big drugs raid there or a murder then they would always be associated with it. It could damage their reputation.”
Mike Matthew, 37, scaffolder, Elgin.
“It wouldn’t bother me. Distilleries have a strong connection to the history of an area. They’ve made a significant difference so it’s no different to naming it after a person who’s made a big contribution.”
Tracy Morrison, 47, receptionist, Elgin.
