A Moray woman will follow in her father’s footsteps as she conducts a choir in the same venue where he performed almost 50 years ago.
Lisa Kerr, from Buckie, became principal of Gordonstoun last year, and is now leading the private school’s Lantern Singers choir.
Her first public performance at the helm of the group will take place at the weekend, and Ms Kerr says that the show will be laden with sentiment for her.
The venue, Gordonstoun’s St Christopher’s Chapel, is one which her father sang decades ago.
While he was head of music at Buckie High School in 1968, Andrew Kerr stole the show with a stunning solo.
And his memorable moment in the spotlight came as part of the very same piece of music that his daughter is now preparing to guide choristers through, Gabriel Faure’s Requiem.
Yesterday, Ms Kerr reflected on the “particularly special occasion”.
She said: “I am delighted that the choir will be singing the same requiem as my father performed a solo in, and in the same chapel, nearly 50 years ago.
“I hope that all who come will enjoy the beautiful surroundings of Gordonstoun while listening to some beautiful choral music.”
Ms Kerr trained as a classical and jazz musician at the City of Edinburgh Music School and the University of York.
And for more than a decade, she was one of the most senior executives in UK commercial radio.
Last summer she was named as the only Moray native – as well as the only woman – to take the top job at the school in the 82 years since it was founded.
The singing group was formed in 2013 and its 10 singers from around Moray meet every week in Elgin.
Members include Baxters’ lawyer Peter McLuckie, architect Ken Lawson and Gordonstoun communications director Sabine Richards.
They will be accompanied by Stephen Kirkwood, Gordonstoun’s head of classics, on the organ, Julie Reynolds on the violin, and renowned harpist Helen MacLeod.
Year 12 student, Florian Tarlosy, will join the performance on the cello.
The annual summer concert will take place at 7.30pm on Saturday.
