Moray Council has confirmed the Garmouth and Kingston Village Hall will not be fit for use as a polling station today after falling victim to torrential rain.
The Spey Street building is believed to have suffered underfloor flooding yesterday, and a new polling place has now been established in the lounge of the nearby Garmouth Hotel.
The latter’s manager, Jody Spence, said her staff were happy to step into the breach and added: “We have been rearranging the furniture to make sure there is space for everything.
“This is the first time we have had something like this, but we are happy to help out and show community spirit.
“Our dining room will be used as the polling place, meaning our guests will be taking their meals in the bar.”
The makeshift polling station will be open from 7am to 10pm and signage is being installed at the village hall redirecting voters to the hotel.
