A primary school in Moray has been told to improve the literacy and numeracy standards of pupils.
Education Scotland has graded the self-evaluation and efforts made to raise the attainment and achievement of students at Applegrove Primary School as “weak”.
Inspectors now intend to return to the Forres classrooms in order to check on progress being made.
Officials spent two days at the school earlier this year speaking to staff, parents and children about their experiences.
Inspector Steven McPherson praised the “warm and caring” school culture and the high quality of support in the school’s “Wee Room”, which caters for those with specialist needs.
He said: “The school needs to take a more rigorous and focussed approach to self-evaluation, quality assurance and improvement planning.
“Led by the headteacher, the school must adopt a more collaborative approach to measuring the quality of its work.
“In particular, there is a need to better gather the views of children, parents and partners on the quality of school provision.”
