An airman, stationed in Moray, has completed a phenomenal fitness challenge as part of his efforts to mark the 100th anniversary of the RAF.
Corporal Jon Ward, who is stationed at Lossiemouth, overcame an injury to run 11 marathons in as many days this month as part of his effort to reach 100 in just two years.
The first of his recent runs was part of the Great Barrow Challenge (GBC) “10 in 10” in Suffolk.
The logistics mover, who is responsible for despatching equipment at the military base, then travelled to Kent for the 11th race in less than two weeks.
The RAF Lossiemouth serviceman is now about three quarters of the way to reaching his three-figure target.
Cpl Ward is aiming to finish his challenge on April 1 next year, which is the centenary of the air force, and is raising money for the RAF Benevolent fund.
He said: “The event was a resounding success for me despite a minor setback on day five with injury.
“Overall, I finished the GBC in second place, with the second fastest set of times since the GBC began four years ago. My average time for the 10 marathons worked out at 3hrs 42mins, which I’m really happy with.”
