More than 1,000 litres of diesel have been stolen during a night time raid at a Moray quarry.
Tools and equipment were also taken during the break-in from the Tennants site in Lossie Forrest near Lossiemouth.
Last night the firm said it believed that an organised group must have been behind the operation.
Police have estimated that about £2,000 worth of items were taken by the thieves.
A Tennants spokeswoman said: “The only way in or out of the site is buy a locked gate. We don’t know how they got in, it’s a mystery.
“The biggest thing that was taken was 1,000 litres of diesel. Everything else was securely locked up.
“Everything was fine when the boys left for the night and then it was gone the following morning.”
Police have revealed the raid happened overnight between Friday, August 11 and Saturday, August 12.
Constable Stuart Dick said: “Given that this is an extremely remote site with no public vehicle access, the person or people responsible for this will have no doubt planned to target this specifically and will have looked out of place.
“Numerous inquiries are ongoing however we know that the area is popular with dog walkers and would ask that anyone who was in the area that night and saw anything or anyone suspicious to please come forward if you think you can help.”
Anyone with information should call police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
